Always a pub first, the Cask Marque for the quality of the real ales including Green King IPA, shows the dedication and attention given by Nell and her team. The bar also includes a good selection of draught and bottled lagers, brand name spirits, wines by the glass or bottle, as well as soft drinks.
On the food side, The Shoes offers a varied choice of classic / traditional European dishes served with a modern twist. Always homemade with the philosophy of good quality, local, fresh ingredients with uncomplicated presentation and value for money; foods that really nourish both your mind and your body.
Regular favorites include steak and kidney pudding (as seen on the BBC), homemade lasagne, and bubble and squeak with local free range eggs and bacon topped with Hollandaise sauce. In addition, chalk boards offer daily specials and advertise any future events.
Always on the menu are Nell’s 100% homemade, traditional Italian thin crust pizzas to eat in or take away if you’re in a hurry.
Sundays mean roasts, and The Shoes is no exception. Roasts normally consist of a choice of two locally sourced roast joints, cooked that morning, and are always served with roast potatoes, fresh vegetables and homemade gravy. A roast wouldn’t be a roast without the good old Yorkshire pudding, so Nell serves these with every roast not just beef; yummy!
Food is always cooked fresh to order and as such at busy times there maybe a short wait; always a good time for another pint and a chat with friends!
Supporting the local community is important, and a big part of what a village pub is about, as is food provenance, so local produce is always high on the agenda and is used extensively throughout the menu.
Children are more than welcome and are catered for with their own menu or reduced adult portions; it’s their choice.
Bookings are not always necessary, although we recommend you make a reservation for peak times, large groups or special occasions.
